Geoptik CCD to M42
« on: 13:11:49, 13 August, 2017 »
What do I need that let me connect one of my older pentacon lenses. To my Atik 428?
I will be using a Narrowband filter with the Camera lens.

I will be using a NB filter for Nebulae and I want to use my Star Adventurer.

Are they M42 Pentax mount or Practice M mount, Pentagons were made with each. If M42 you don't need anything other than perhaps some M42 spacers to get the focus point close to the Infinity mark on the lens.

Hi Chris,

These are all M 42 Practica mount.
What about the Geoptik device. Are they standard issue. Or are they made for different lens types?

There are variations, Canon, Nikon etc but CCD to M42 will effectively be M42 to M42 (T2). You could achieve the same with some M42 spacers. Have to say, I have not seen a CCD to M42 Geoptik, most of them are for converting Bayonet type lens arrangements to T2 for the CCD.

Hi Chris,

If that is the case. Then It is a none starter.
For what it would cost me to buy a Canon lens. Plus the Geoptik adaptor. I might as well buy a short tube 66 mm Apo, from Altair

Your M42 lens will screw straight into your CCD BUT the lens is designed for a metal back distance of around 45 mm whereas the CCD is around 15mm. You therefore only need about 30mm of T2 spacer to do the job.

Chris,

Thank you for that information. It's good to know. It will Work.

Now I think, I have a solution to mounting it all. A Telephoto Lens, Tripod Collar.

I will be using a 200mm F4 Pentacon lens, with the CCD so I'll need one that is the right size.

I have been looking on ebay, but. There are so many. It is difficult finding the right one.

I have used a couple of small guide scope rings and a dovetail. I put one of the rings around the spacer and the other on a part of the lens that is not required for focus or aperture adjustment. Probably better than a collar as that is only a single point of fixity.

What size rings did you use?

What I had laying around, 75mm but you would need to use whatever fits your lens.
