Maplin 17AH Power Tank
« on: 15:25:43, 24 October, 2008 »
Got one of these http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?moduleno=224871 earlier this week. Really nice piece of kit with two 12V outlet ports, an LED light with decent output for setting up and taking down and an invertor to run 200w out of a 13amp socket. All nicely rubberised to boot. Feels very sturdy in comparison to their other, albeit a bit cheaper, unit.

I've had three of this type of "all in one" power pack though NOT a Maplin model such as mentioned here.  None of them had the longevity that I would have wished for- frequent charge-discharge cycles over 12 months saw a steady deterioration in battery life.  I finally dug deeper into my wallet and bought a quality 20Ah gel battery and charger - two years later and it still lasts as as good as new.  I like the convenience of these packs but with so few good nights these days there is some small comfort in knowing that its going to be weather rather than a low battery that brings my imaging to an end.  I'd be interested to know of the experience of others.
