California Nebula Ha and DSLR comparisons
« on: 10:26:26, 19 September, 2012 »
I took 2 hours with Ha on the very windy Thursday evening and just over 3 hours on Friday and Saturday with the DSLR.  The combi is not brilliant as they are not aligned well enough and too much cropping needed so won't be posting that.

Pretty pleased with the results from the new CCD camera.

Images:
1. Atik 383L, 6 x 1200 secs, Ha filter 12nm, ED80, NEQ6, Guided, Captured in Artemis, Cooled to -10
2. Modified Canon 450D, taken over two nights, total of 37 x 5mins, 900 ISO, Captured in APT with dithering

Mount: HEQ5,  Telescopes: SW ED120 Pro and SW Evostar ED80 pro, WO ZS71 APO,  SW130PDS
Cameras: Modified Canon EOS 1100D, Atik 460EX, Atik314, DMK21, DBK21, Dual rig options. Observatory: SkyPOD & PZT

Very nice Ha image there Carole. In know you dont like the thought of it but Pixinsight would align those in a jiffy!

I aligned them in Maxim Chris but too much would need to be cropped out to form a complete image, but if you can live with the black corners this is what it came out like:

Not bad for Jpegs Chris.
Pixinsight looks scarey to me, saw a demo once and it put me off.

Carole

Its a lot less scary than it used to be and there are loads of tutorials out there. I reckon its a darn sight easier than Photoshop!
