Feb 2017 - LBN903
« on: 10:23:31, 14 February, 2017 »
First clear night in nearly a month and a full moon cuts short proceedings!

This one needs a LOT more time and would benefit from colour (I can't believe I said that). It could also do with a sightly wider field of view, though this area to the west of the Christmas Tree in Monoceros is a convoluted mass of bright and dark structure.

Bottom centre is Lynds Bright Nebula 903 with 904 at mid left left. The bright area at the top is IC 446 and the dark lane linking it to LBN 903 are LDN 1606 and 1606. The dark area at top left is a small part of LDN 1605.

There are a few areas with a combination of LBN and LDN but this is probably one of the easier ones. Most published images of this use fast optics under true dark skies so I am pretty pleased to have managed this at f7 from the UK.

Very nice Chris I do like the nebulosity and as you say some colour and a slightly wider fov would really improve the wow factor. ATB Jim

Looked familiar and it's indeed the same area next to Christmas tree cluster which I did earlier this year.
Also used 20" Cassegrain (Skygems) remote to get a closer view (second image).
