Title: quick M78 ( And a first )
Post by: Roger B on 23:15:00, 20 February, 2018
I can't say why I have never imaged this before,  probably Orion and the Horsehead are so much popular,  Not imaging Orion for a few years probably made me forget about M78.

12x 600 L & 7x300 Bin 2x2 RGB.     If I have time I'll shoot the RGB bin 1x1 as I always seem to end up with artefacts on the stars when I merge 2x2 binned RGB  to 1x1 Lum.   I should have got more Saturday night but I decided to go carp fishing & it was as clear as a bell.   The temp plummeted though had ice inside the bivvy...   And only one fish.

W/O 110mm @ f5.6 & Sx694 + Baader filters    Needs More but the Tomato factory has now opened and the glow in that direction could be out of the question but they are not on till about 10pm.

Nicely done Roger. Totally agree other bright and popular objects in Orion are so tempting this one is often over looked. Must give it a go myself next season. CS Jim

Well done. I have done this so many times but yet not satisfied with results.
Could be that bar is raising...

Good progress so far Roger, will look great with at least twice a much data.  It's a very rewarding target if you have the right sky conditions.
