Announcement: Tutorials & Articles Competition!
« on: 21:15:25, 02 March, 2007 »
Well guys, time we resurrected our push on articles / tutorials and "how-to's", so...

If you have any new kit that you'd like to do a comprehensive review on, or fancy writing ANY tutorial to help our members (i.e. an RGB combine, an LP removal, Guiding with GuideDog, your home made dew heater or a planetary processing type of thing), then get writing and snapping some pics! We'll be awarding a £25 (that's $50 or 42 Euros ;)) prize every month for the best article/tutorial. Just submit them to the relevant section, and keep your fingers crossed for the cash.

This will be an ongoing comp until further notice. Just label your post with "Comp Article", "Comp Tutorial" or "Comp Review" in the title to be included...

Good Luck

Andy (OBO UKAI Admin & Mods)

I would like to write a couple of simple tutorials for new members FAQ's trouble is I need a tutorial writing for me first to explain how I add pictures into the tutorial text  :D

anychance someone could give me a few simple instructions of how I add linked pics without using the usual upload pic feature, oh and another thing, as most of the images get deleted in old posts, how will this affect any permanent articles, or do linked pics stay put, or is it best to do the whole thing on an independant web page and just have a link to it??

Sorry for all the questions, but if its gonna be worth the effort I would like to get it right first time

Thankyou

ade

The button underneath the Italic button is the insert image option Ade...
Dunno about deleting linked images though - best to have them off site I suppose.
Maybe you're right though that storing the article on your own webspace and linking to it would be good - ar atleast storing the pics there.

Arthur

PS - incidentally, if you want to see how somebody has done something in a message, just hit the Quote button and look at the unformatted message :D

Ade, it's always best to host your images off UKAI if possible. We clean up the forum every now and then, and any older pics can be deleted!

Come on guys - Let's have a push on this! We all need info from eachother, so let's be proactive and offer it BEFORE it's been asked for, instead of as a reply.

It's nearly three weeks now since we announced the comp, and so far we've had how many entries?

Yup, one - Nick's excellent article on guiding

Remember there's £25 to be had EVERY MONTH for the best article or review!

Here's some suggestions:

LRGB Imaging
Combining different length exposures
Connecting a 300D to a telescope
Light pollution filters
Dark frames and flat frames
Mirror & lens cleaning
Mounting and using a guidescope
Budget eyepiece shootout
Remote control of your mount
Upgrading Autostar / Synscan
A beginners guide to focusing
Processing planetary AVIs
Calibrating your monitor
Building a dewheater

I know some of these have been done, but what about a new perspective on them? - Just trying to give this whole idea a push

Does it count if I refer or link to an article on my site? (I don't mean an old article, it would still be from this month, or whatever month I entered in)

Where does the time go?

I have half written two articles for helping newbies, just havent had time to get anywhere near completion, maybe in for next month, at least one of them
