Cheers Eddie! Very nice color there, perhaps a bit noisy?  Might try Noel's deep space noise reduction if you have it.

Alrighty then, for those of you want to try a new one, I'll pick one of the previous submissions this weekend and see if we can host it.  I'll post an announcement too.

Thanks again all who participated.

  Mo, that is excellent!  :big_clap:

You sure have come a long way since you started last year.

You managed to get a lot of detail out and keep the noise off as well.  Took me two years to figure how to do that properly.

Here's my humble effort.

Took Daniels 32bit TIFF as a starting point.
Balanced up the colours using levels.
Clean up the hot pixels with a clone brush.
Duplicated this layer, and darkened it down with a curves layer.
Added a layer mask, and painted a circular gradient over Alnitak.
Changed layer mode to darken.
(this reduced the bloat from Alnitak)
Merged the layers.
A bit of deep space noise reduction.
Increase the red saturation.
Extract the Red colour channel.
Paste this in a new layer, set the mode to luminosity, and opacity to 33%.
(this again reduces Alnitak which is predominately blue)

Not 100% happy, but got other stuff to play with...

Million apologies everyone!  :(  Something has come up and my time on the forum is cut to the bone... the smallest bone, to be exact.  So I haven't had a chance to peruse till now.

Excellent work Mark!  Very smooth and good color, looks like you managed to reduce Alnitak quite a bit as well.

Ok, I guess it's time for a new one, huh?  Can anyone help?  If someone has some raw data they want to share and can host it, go ahead and post a link to it as a new thread.  Also, I think everyone can upload into the downloads directory then you can post a link to the data.

Many many thanks and kharma to whoever can do this.  :urock:  :big_clap:

HEY! Newcomers. Think you have some good subs but haven't a clue what to do next?
Well, here's your chance. Post them here and let someone else process them.
Then, if you like the result you can get what they did word for word.
Sounds like a plan to me. ;) :D

Amazing Pictures Indeed !!!

I have no idea how you guys did it.  Even I still can't take any pictures, I also want to try process like you guys did.  Can someone provide some step by step instruction how to do it?  So newbie like me could try.

OK!  This is my very first and second try on deep sky image processing.  I used CS3.
