While I wait for the moon to leave us...I reworked some old data.

Here is a high resolution image of the famous Keyhole Nebula in NGC 3372.

Not a lot of exposure to work with but luckily she is a bright bugger

If you click on the image when it opens you can have a look at the full frame image also reworked from the same data set.

Super Close up of Keyhole showing details in Eta Carina: http://www.pbase.com/strongmanmike2002/image/132090922/original

Same scope: 6" Starfire at 1300mm focal length - more details under the image

That is a lovely colourful close in of the Keyhole, great dark spots and blobs top right and nice dark dust in the Keyhole itself.

I had a go at a close view of the star Eta Carina at 10meters and it has fascinating cloud detail around it but it was too windy.

Excellent image (as ever!)  Nice Bok globules as John said and the definition in the "central" nebula is superb.  It really looks like a bubble being blown by Eta Car below it.

Blue halos??

Cheers John

Yeh a longer FL and very short exposures is the way to get the lobes around Eta itself.

Eddi TRimarchi did a great version some years ago now, he used planetary imaging techniques basically.

I have just produced this from my wide field data set which was composed using 10min exposures.

Thanks Terry

Yes Eta has a nice twin lobed nebula around it but it is in near the star, very short exposures (10sec) are need to reveal it well.

The blue halos are just remains of the blue stars after I combined the tiny Ha stars into the image, I tried to minimise them as best I could without losing all the coulor but in the end the blue halos aren't too bad on my nicely set contrast moniter at home but they are more noticable on my work moniter. At this stage I am happy enough, Rob Gendler has such halos in some of his shots...soooo I guess  I'll live with'em
...who knows maybe I'll do a reprorepro  :D

Just added the inner micro detail of the Homunculus around the star Eta Carina itself, if you care to have another look :-)

Used some data I collected with the Starfire back in 2006 when I used shorter exposures.

Thats an excellent close up of the Eta dumbell lobes, this star is really remarkable.  I could try it with the Flea3 next time?

Cheers Aussie John (he he)

Yeh, you should, remember this was imaged at only 1300mm focal length and with just a 6" telescope!

Glad you liked it Peter, have you seen or imaged the Eta Carina area..?

Cheers Eddie and Chris, a Starfire APO although only 6" of apperture and a mere 1300mm FL can still hang it with the big RC boys without feeling totally out classed :-)
