Best capture software to use with a Phillips SPC900NC webcam

New to this and there seems to be lots to choose from. Any recommendations much appreciated. I am running windows xp on a netbook and widows 7 on my laptop.

Yep, as Simon has said K3CCD seems to be very popular, and it has a demo available to download, so you can 'try before you buy', so to speak.....perfect.

As an alternative you could try WX Astrocapture, it's free, straightforward and it's pretty good as a capture program. This is what I use with my SPC900NC, and I've had no issues with it.

The only thing you may find is whether or nor it will run with Windows 7 (it does 2000, XP and Vista). Here's a link to the software page where you can check and see various recommendations. Click on the links to download.

I use K3CCDTools and also Sharpcap.  Have never fathomed out how to use WXAstocapture.  All free, although K3 there is a small cost if you don't want to keep getting a new Key (unless they've change this in the last couple of years).

Sharpcap - free and works well with most webcams including the SPC900
