November Sky Guide 2011

Full moon on the 10th, new moon on the 25th. The moon reached apogee on the 8th.
The Northern and Southern Taurids are visible through the fist half of the month but with a slow ZHR will be a disappointing show this year.
Around the middle of the month the Leonids will make an appearance and with their higher hourly rate should make a better show.

Planets

Mercury is visible shortly after sunset.

Venus visible after sunset through the month becoming visible for longer as the month passes.  In Scorpius at the start of the month before crossing into Sagittarius.

Mars rising shortly after midnight in Leo, visible throughout the month.

Jupiter viewable in Aries through the month

Saturn becoming visible from the middle of the month in Virgo.

Comets visible this month (to mag 12)

Garradd C2009/P1 in Hercules
Hill C2010/G2 in Auriga
Elenin C2010/X1 in Auriga

ISS Passes

There will be ISS passes in the evening at the beginning of the month and in the early hours of the morning at the end.

Deep Sky

Best deep sky imaging is from the 1st to the 2nd and from the 18th on.

The winter constellations are now approaching so for those willing to image later into the night the options are endless. M42, M45 and M1 are all particular favourites. A bit more of a challenge is the horsehead and flame in Orion and the Witches Head nebula. For those imaging earlier in the night Cygnus and Andromeda have plenty of objects to choose from.
