M16 - Eagle Nebula... wide field stylie!
« on: 00:13:34, 19 September, 2012 »
I have been after this object for MANY years.... never been in a place to grab it as it's always VERY low.

I had to wait for the light to drop, the nebula to pass between 2 gorse bushes but before it hid behind a tree before I could nail this 1! This was the 1st Kelling image...

Anyway, 10 x 5 minute subs, processed as usual in PixInsight.

Kelling kit again : SXVR-H16 on the AA 102mm triplet, guided with a Lodestar on a ZS66, all on the sexy black EQ6...

Well done Phil.  I tried to grab this one, I got one sub but had a dirty great tree in the way.

Rhil

Shows up the shape of the nebula well in this framing.  The donut is showing well too which is quite difficult from our latitudes.  This always needs good Ha to show up properly.

thanks

I have never paid any attention to this object in wide field.... I have only ever seen images from Hubble which do not show it all....

I had no idea of the donut shape and only really notice it now you point it out.... nice!

It's a shame I didn't know the LHS had more data else I would have framed the object more to the right.... but still really chuffed I got it at all!

I love this one in wide field as well (I know, who are you? and what have you done with Tom?) Everybody tries to concentrate on the floaty bits in the middle and forgets the big picture.

I swear this is the brightest thing in the sky after the orion neb.

Very nice rendition. Spot on with the processing on such a short dataset.

One of my usual comments about mono ha images: Can you skim the top off the stars everso very slightly. Take the punch out of the stars and it helps the nebula zing out of the page

To be honest, Tom... I always thought the Eagle nebula was the claw in the middle!  It's only when I did a bit of searching on the t'interweb that I found out...

Thanks for the comments... I know what you mean about the brightness... in the raws, the central region is almost burnt out!!!
