Phillyo, do you think it's worth buying Canon EOS 550D from http://www.laptopoutlet.co.uk/4463b116aa-new-canon-eos-550d-digital-slr-camera-18-mp-aps-c-cmos-sensor-iso-100-6400-h:12800-.html
I never tried Canon as yet but heard a lot about its proficiency & the deals looks comparatively better!

Nomis/Phillyo: Can you please help me decide if it's worth buying Canon EOS 550D with 18-55 & 75-300 in 499.99?
Waiting for a go ahead or a clear no, please!

My first DSLR was the Canon EOS 400d then a couple of years ago I up graded to a 600d which is the camera I have now and love it.

The key difference between the 550d and the 600d is the pivotable display screen which is a god send when doing astro imaging as you don't have to break your back/neck to use the live-view for focusing !

I'm a Canon sort of guy so I'll always recommend them (and they are the make for which you can get the most astro imaging accessories although Nikon are catching up) however my advise would be to get a 600d body as a minimum.  You can pick up lenses quite cheap - I have the 18-55 basic lens plus I got a 70-200mm f/4 L series [the white ones] which again is lovely.

Hope that helps.

I'd agree with Simon, see if you can find a 600 or possibly 650D. Modded would be even better unless you need to use it for normal photography.

A picture taken this morning of Bentley on our morning walk along the canal. Something definitely piqued his interest!

Taken with the Canon 5D Mark III and the Canon 70-200 II f2.8 IS USM L lens.

I have some lovely images from this morning as the sun was rising and the mist was rolling off the canal. Best time of the day! :)
