Sheard Grub Removal
« on: 11:36:55, 14 May, 2015 »
I knew I'd be the first to have a problem with the Rowan mod.   ( nothing goes right for me )

On page 3 part 16 of the PDF it says loosen the 2 gear set screws.   one is loose the other wouldn't budge so I little more force and now it's sheared so the allen key does not grip.

Whats the best way to loosen it now ?

Have you got a  set of imperial Allen keys, try the closest but next size up from the metric version. Alternative, do you have a flat bladed screwdriver that is close to the diameter of the allen socket. try and hammer that into place, the knocking may go some way to loosening the screw similar to an impact driver. if needs be use a pair of pliers to trun the srewdriver.
I take the Allen bolt head is recessed, if not, use a junior hacksaw to cut a "slot" in the head so that it will accept a screwdriver

Good luck.

As above, but I use the star-ended bits - one that is slightly oversize, then tap it in with a hammer.

Be worth it in the end Roger. Mine is vastly improved by the mod, new lubrication, new bearings and some general tweaking. I VERY briefly set up last night and was getting 5 minute unguided subs at 450mm FL. Would never have managed anything near that prior to the mod. Should help guiding to be a lot smoother than previous.
