New observatory project..... and about time too!!!
« on: 15:17:00, 21 July, 2015 »
Looks like I'll be imaging again this season!!  Yay!!!!! :)
Just started on laying out the observatory floor plan, starting with pier base and sanding back my pier after it had layer in me garden for the past 9 years :/
The shed you see at the side will be my warm room. :)

Next update.... Pier base laid.
Even if the observatory takes until January to complete, I'll have the basics in place!  :)  and my gear in the warm room.

Hey up Simon, I'm between my garage and my shed (warm room). I need to perform a bit of tree lopping for best viewing which I'll do later on; no rush. I'll have a decent enough FOV from East - South (+20 deg) and from SW - NE (+10 deg). Ample sky and DARK!! Until the other half forgets and pops on the kitchen light!!  :)

Welding job to do, after I've chopped that extension to length!!!
Job for today... then a quick dab of Hammerite.
I've gone for 10.5mm plate rather than the 5.25mm of the last leveling plate. Figure it will minimise on any flex.

Yeah, still have it. To be fair it's pretty good for a achro.
The 4" and 5" fracs are simply great though.
I can see why some folk pay 1000's on a top notch scope.

Looking good Rich,

Piers make such a difference don't they. I installed one last year. I now have a a worm room, where I control all my imaging from.

Guys you're not wrong! I really enjoyed using the visual setup last night, despite the moon. Had my first glimpse of Saturn in over 5 years!!! and bagged M81, 82 and 57. There were no vibrations that I could see by eye and when I did clunk the pier the vibrations settled out very quickly. I've yet to fill it with sand too. :)
Hope to pick up more supplies soon so that I can get on with the main structure.
