Starlight Live
« on: 08:52:28, 16 September, 2015 »
I saw this on the SX website and decided to give it a try out http://www.sxccd.com/downloads/StarlightLive.win32.1.0.zip. In essence if you have an Starlight Express camera (Including Lodestar) this will do a live align and stack.

Through very small gaps in the cloud I gave it a run out with a Lodestar X2 and my 70mm guide scope and I have to say I was most impressed. M57 became very clear after only a few 5 second frames and even parts of Veil were visible in a minute or so. Its like a crossover between imaging and visual (without all that eyepiece malarky) and would be great at star parties, outreach or even when you have a few friend around.

Will try this with my Lodestar X2 and even cooler it will run on MAC OS X so I can airplay it to the TV: http://www.sxccd.com/downloads/StarlightLive.osx.1.0.zip

It is very funky Peter and yes I have tried it on OSX and its fine. With A Lodestar and stacking in sum mode it soon starts to burn out on brighter objects but it is fun for hunting about with.

Chris, I *believe* this is the "Lodestar Live" program or something similar to use other SX cams as it's also written by Paul Shears. It certainly looks like it...

Not sure if you saw the output from that guy opposite me (& next to Nigel) @ Kelling?  He had the Lodestar live running on the Ring and M27... very impressive & he was using standard Lodestar.

Phil

It is the Paul Shears software. It was Lodestar Live as a Beta and is now renamed as Starlight Live as it works on most other Starlight CCD's too. I have just had it running on my H16. I did have a quick looks at Adams screen and it was what prompted me to go and hunt it down.

It can get a bit bogged with alignment and stacking when there are lots of stars in the frame and I believe Paul is aware of this issue and working on optimising his code to improve it. Less of an issue with the Lodestar than it is with the H16 but is is fun to play with when conditions are not ideal for normal imaging and it saves making changes to the imaging train to go visual.

Cool....

Yeah... it certainly has potential & I am already investigating the use of it at a Star Party we will be running in October....  The Watec is great, but it lacks a large enough sensor for locating objects & for a FOV...

Keep us posted on what you find & I will too..

I tried LodestarLive some time ago, will have to give this new version a spin.

It was Adam @ Kelling who had it,  I was also quite impressed with it.
