Hi Guys
Can someone (in the know)  let me know the benefits of the Altair GPCAM AR0130C COLOUR   over the Philips SPC900NC Webcam for Planetary and Lunar imaging.
Your replies would be very much appreciated.

More pixels, MUCH higher QE to turn photons into electrons, better electrics designed to be cooled by the case, better USB bus, better frame rate, lower read noise.  Chalk and Cheese really.

Am i right in thinking that i can leave my 1.25" diagonal on my 8" SCT and secure the Altair Camera to it for imaging planets and the moon?

Yes if you wish. Make sure everything locks up securely though, and loop the wire over the finder or something so it doesn't tug on the camera.
(note though: every optical component, including mirrored surfaces, will degrade the image to a small extent, so ideally you use as few components as possible)

Yes you can down load the software from http://cameras.altairastro.com/  this will include the windows driver (which must be installed before connecting the camera to your PC)

To image what? Settings for the moon would be very different to the settings for Mars or Venus. As a general rule keep the gain as low as you can and increase exposure to suit. On the planets you may have to increase the gain to get suitable frame rate.

It is very much a matter of experimentation.

Chris is right.
I usually use FireCapture and there I monitor histogram so that its max is more than 200 and less than 255.
Here's a video I just found (more useful info on links beside it):

I would use FireCapture with mine but the GPCAM isn't supported yet (will be soon I expect).

Hmmm - FireCapture says it no longer supports webcams ... does this mean the current Beta onwards won't support the GP-CAM ?

It's never supported the GPCAM to my knowledge.
