I'll have another good look this evening and report back. Is there an upper limit to the amount of subframes you can use? I was using 33...

Phil

No upper limit, just put 33 in the number of frames box. The MURE algorithm needs to 'guesstimate' what the noise in the frame should be as a seed to the iterative cycle (spins) and 33 frames will have ~root 33 of the noise of a single one. Just a thought but it does not, currently, work with drizzled integration. Drizzling throws out that initial 'guess'.

Ahhh! I used a drizzled integrated image. I shall try without later :)

Like this  :big_clap: definitely a good noise reduction method although after DBE I do seem to get some noise back (after a stf stretch). One strange thing I do get is a high value from the bias estiamtor (30,000) which is bizarre but, if I put around 25-30 in the Gaussian noise box I get a good image

Will play more tomorrow

After MUREDn and DBE my true background levels are so low that doing an autostretch is probably not very realistic to the end result. MUREDn is probably more of a noise suppressor and it can still be a good idea to follow it up with a post stretch round of gentle ACDNR with a strong mask.

Version 1.8 of the script has just been released and it is well worth downloading.

I found that on some images MURE DeNoise could over or under correct and this was largely as a result of the weighting applied to images during Image Integration. A variable image set with weightings in the range of 0.9 to 1.0 worked fine but much below 0.9 and it didn't. Mike Schuster has added an additional step that accounts for it. It does mean copying text from the Process Console from the line Image Integration then pasting it into Wordpad and saving out as a plain text .txt file. The MURE script can then load that log and adjust the amount of noise reduction based on the variances within the log.

I have run it on a few images this morning and the small extra step is very much worthwhile.

Hopefully at some point the scrip will make it into 'Prime Time' and the log file will be automated.
