STARTRAILS Imaging Competition - WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT
« on: 20:42:58, 23 January, 2016 »

Challenge 2 - Startrails Imaging Challenge - *RESULTS*

Round 2 of our Imaging Challenge is now complete, and we had a great selection of star-trail images entered, it was good to see that many of you took to this challenge, despite a fairly bad run of weather here in the UK. The relative simplicity of this challenge meant that location selection and framing was going to be key, and we were looking for images which had a certain something in addition to the star trails themselves. Thankyou to all who were inspired to get the static tripods out and shoot the sky in motion  :clap:

I would like to congratulate the winners, and thank all who entered the competition, and if you didn't make the top list this time around, look out for our next Imaging Challenge coming very soon, for yet another chance to win!

Winning Image

Congratulations to Ian Straton  WINNER of the Startrails Imaging Challenge!  :clap:

The judges felt that this image fullfilled the brief of the competition nicely, the carefully selected viewpoint created a dynamic image as it hoisted your eye up the flagpole towards Polaris, and the fisheye distortion of the the foreground echoes the circular rotation of the sky above, overall our favourite image. Well done Ian!

Ian wins an Altair GP-CAM courtesy of our sponsor, Altair Astro

2nd Place Winning Image

Our second place goes to Skipper Billy for his image taken in Oban, Scotland. This image caught our attention due to the pleasing symetry of the trails against the sillouette of the trees in the foreground, but what really sets this image off the that Billy also managed to capture the wonderful eeire glow of the aurora dancing in the background amongst the startrails, creating a spectacular array of colour, well done Billy!  :clap:

Billy wins a limited edition UKAI coffee mug  8)

Commended places go to;

3rd - Paul 'clarkepm4242' with his spooky halloween graveyard
4th - Ian Stratons  Trio of Dancing Bears
5th - Dave 'ddave489'  Bodenham Star Trails

We would like to thank our sponsor, Altair Astro for providing the top prize, and again a big 'thankyou' to everyone who entered their images, as they were all of a very high standard - well done folks!   :urock:
In case you missed any of the entries, they can all be seen here

We will soon be starting the 3rd round of the Altair Astro/UKAI Imaging Challenge, with the theme 'Orion Nebula'

NOTE:  Can all winners please contact me via PM with you postal address so that I can arrange delivery of your prizes - Thankyou.  Ade
