Another Starlight Express Shout
« on: 09:36:06, 14 August, 2016 »
The other day I connected my SX814 up to do new season darks and bias and it was not recognised by windows on power-up. Stranger still the lodestar and filter wheel connected to the Trius hub didn't show up either. After a few "£$%^ Windows" curses I swapped it for my H16 (same wires and power supply) and that connected no issues. Contacted Terry Platt at SX and sent the camera back to him on Thursday (so would have arrived with him on Friday). Lo and behold it came back fixed on Saturday!

Just try doing that with camera from foreign shores!

Terry is legend for that sort of thing. Any idea what caused it?

No idea Tom, seems to have just been one of those power on failures. The fact that the whole USB side was not recognised suggest to me it was something on that side of things. Terry swapped out the board entirely. Terrific service though on something that could easily be argued as being out of warranty.

I don't always Rog with the 814 as it has such low dark current accumulation (I do with the H16) but having a few can be useful in Cosmetic Correction for hot pixel removal. Dithering gets rid of most of them but I do prefer to clean up individual frames as much as possible first.

The boy is a star - has sorted the odd glitch or 2 from me too..... (the camera, not me  )

Always good with the advice as well... (for the camera!)
