Twin Truss Dob Refurb
« on: 19:45:16, 06 September, 2016 »
I havent posted an image on UKAI for quite a while, in fact the only astronomy I have done for the last few years is some breif encounters at Kelling, and I'm pretty rusty when it comes to imaging these days. Anyhow, with the darker nights approaching, I think it's time I mustered a bit of enthusiasm, so have decided to go back to a bit of visual until I can sort my life out, but first I need to sort out the old twin truss dob.

She hasnt seen the light of day, (or night), for about 7 yrs or so, and has been gathering cobwebs in the observatory, so dusted her off this evening and started stripping her down to see what I can do, and hopefully breathe a bit of life into the old girl, fortunately the mirrors look in fairly good nick, so other than a bit of tinkering with the truss mounts, and new coat of paint, she may even be ready for kelling at the end of the month - fingers crossed  8)

Now where did I put those eyepieces?.....

Oxford English Dictionary

Eyepiece - (i, peas) [grow in an iPod?] - Very expensive small lump of normal glass that has great expectation but huge disappointment once you look through one. Only available in monochrome (their only good point)

There's nowt wrong with using the "Apple" "IBall" and eps.

The only problem. Keeping your head steady when looking into one  :D

Done lots of much needed modifications to the old dob today, now having a lathe I can re-make many parts which just were not up to scratch, such as changing wing nuts for propper turned thunbscrews, and a few extra modifications. also a new paint job, but I can't reveal that just yet as I'm saving it for Kelling  ;)

Now I know this isn't exciting to you guys, but I have cleaned my mirrors and mounted them back into the old dob, and had a joyfull hour collimating the old bird - I had forgotten that the simplist pleasures in life are just that - Simple!    :nerd:
