Capture software for QHY cameras?
« on: 18:06:50, 07 November, 2016 »
Hi all,
I have a QHYII 5L and QHY5III 174(USB 3).
The 5L works with Firecapture and I like Firecapture.
I cannot get it to work with the 174. There is conflicting info on the web about whether it should work.
Sharpcap works with both, and I have used it a lot in the past. With the 174 I'm finding Sharpcap quite flakey, dropping frames, stopping all capture and crashing. Some of which was poor USB3 connectivity, that is now sorted(hopefully!)
What have you found with 174 cams and either Sharpcap or Firecap?
Ive just installed Nebulosity which can connect as an ASCOM device, that was unreliable too.

Cheers

I don't have a QHY 174-based camera but I do have the ASI 174 (so same sensor). I get full frame rate in both Firecapture and SharpCap. I will need to go check but I think I needed to use the latest 32-bit FireCapture beta for some reason because the 64-bit didn't work. Give the 32-bit a try - it runs from a directory anyway so no extra installation.

I have the Altair version of the 174 and find the frame rate very sensitive to the USB3 cable and the computer its attached too. It really does not like my Dell Workstation laptop that should work well but does like the cheap Dell desktop out in the obsy.

Bah! typical, 2.5Beta does work with the QHY5III 174 but USB traffic control hasnt been implemented.
I suspect its been clamped down at a safe value so I can only get a pedestrian 33fps max! at any resolution or exposure time.

Another piece of hardware waiting for the software to catch up.

Scratch that, found it.
