EQMOD DxSA and DxSB
« on: 11:55:11, 26 November, 2016 »
Hello All,

Can someone please help me understand two boxes in the main expanded EQMOD control panel identified as DxSA and DxSB.

Prior to giving my set-up a rebuild I think these boxes had some numbers in them, but now they just have lots of zeros.  I think this is because I cleared all the data down after the rebuild and started again.  Now whenever, I slew to a star and sync either via Maxim DL or CdC the boxes remain at zero.

Am I doing something wrong or is this normal?

Many thanks in anticipation Jim

The DxSA and DxSB will only be non-zero if there is a sync in place. I don't know what the SA and SB stand for (S might be Sync) but they are effectively the deltas (Dx) between where the telescope thinks it is pointing and where the sync says it is pointing. I suspect they are DeltaRa and DeltaDec so will serve as offsets for subsequent slews. If there is a multi point model running in EQMod then these values should update depending on where in the sky you are pointing but have never checked to see if this is the case, they may just reflect the latest sync offsets.

Hope that makes sense

Thanks Chris guessed that might be the case but do not understand why it always reads zero. As happy as I am with my EQ8Pro I don't think it is perfectly accurate when slewing over large distances between syncs.

Is the Sync History also empty (click on the little notepad)? If it is and you have made a sync then that is not taking for some reason.

A sync is a pretty blunt approach to mopping up pointing errors from all sorts of sources but assumes that it applies everywhere. In truth pointing error will vary considerably around the sky due to defections and the like so I would not blame it all on the EQ8. Even a three point model will improve pointing provided they are well spaced and especially if the target is within the three points.

The sync history has a dozen sync points recorded across most of the sky.  Which is why I do not understand why the DxSA and DxSB are not indicating a sync error. Jim

I have just checked with mine.

I tend to only issue a sync in which case I use Dialog Based as the input method. The Dx boxes show the latest sync offsets.

If you use Append on Sync then each  time you hit sync, it adds to the model and the Dx boxes stay blank.

Just popped out and punch a couple of holes in the clouds and DxSA and DxSB are now reading correctly.  As usual the holes have been filled with clouds so back in the house.  Thanks for your help Chris.  ATB Jim
