PHD Settings
« on: 16:59:22, 30 December, 2016 »
Hi Everyone,

After no imaging in 2016 I have made a vow to get out as much as I can with my scope so decided to test my guiding setup last night with my EQ5 and my Kwik Guider using a ST4 cable. Graph results are below. Are there any settings that can be tweaked or improved upon?

Thanks,
Al

Al

To start with PHD2 is now up to version 2.6.2 so worth doing an update.

4.6 is a bit on the low side for SNR of a guide star. Low SNR will affect the ability of PHD to find an accurate star centroid so having one with a decent SNR but avoiding saturated pixels is good.

Quite a lot of reversals in Dec. Worth having the scope balance a little front heavy. If it still oscillates try setting the De cGuide Algorithm to Resist Switching, I think the default is Hysteresis (which is fine for RA)

Chris

ps welcome back to the imaging lark!

What Chris said.
Maybe try some longer guide exposure.
But most importantly what does your stars look like ?
Don't know if you have correct guiding info (guiding focal length etc) but little over 1" means pretty round stars.
