Maxim DL camera driver
« on: 17:14:28, 27 February, 2017 »
Hi folks,

I have MaximDL 5.23  and tried this weekend to connect to my Canon 700D.  Set to Canon EOS II as per instructions.  The camera was seen but would not connect, error message "Camera model 'Canon EOS 700D' is not recognised by this plugin".  The plugin in question is CCDPlugEos.dll, description 'Canon EOS Second Gen Driver 5,23,0,0'  It DID run my friend's Canon 650D, so looks as though I just missed out  :(

My MaximDL is well out of upgrade dates now, and it's not worth my while to go that route.  But I wonder if anyone has a later driver which would do the job?

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi Peter,

5.24 for me but the help text doesn't include the 700D in the list...   :(

It is the new version documentation

Peter

Just checked and my version of the plugin is the same though I think the actual version is a little later. I got fed up of paying an annual fee for pretty much nothing by way of upgrades.

A bit more digging, and I've realised that the driver above is the Eos I driver.  The one I need is CCDPlugNeoEos.dll  The version I have is 5.23.0.0  Maybe a later version 5  will do the business.  I've installed Maxim version 6 demo, and tried using the version 6 dll in Maxim5, but although it looked promising at first it eventually failed to do the job.  Works fine in Maxim 6 of course!

Any help gratefully received  ;)

Cheers,

Peter

TBH, Peter.... I think they button it down tighter than an Alabama tick! (  (c) Predator 1987)

As Chris says..... THE main reason I HATE what Diffraction ltd do..... "updates" only allowed during 1 year license!

Bleh!

"updates" only allowed during 1 year license!

I dont object to that principle too much as long as there are some updates that justifies the fee. I paid for Maxim for several years and got diddly squat. I quite like the CCDAP model where you get updates and bug fixes without paying a licence fee but new features require paying the annual licence. If new feature come out, you make the decision as to whether they are worth paying for or not.

Peter,

The release notes seem to indicate 700D support only came in with V6... so any V5 will not help.

Version 6.01
Initial release of Version 6 major upgrade - see What's New in Version 6? for major feature additions.
Canon:  Updated 6D support, added "beta test" support for 100D, 700D, and 1200D.
Nikon:  Added support for USB-only long exposures, for those camera models that support it. Added support for FX versus DX cropping. Update to D600.
Obsolete Driver Pack:  Obsolete camera driver support for all parallel port and ISA bus cameras is now discontinued.

Thanks, Phil  at least now I know it would cost me ££s.  Not going that route.

Never mind - it was just so I could guide and dither using Maxim for all.  Need to find another way.

Cheers,

Peter.
