Rust!!
« on: 10:45:48, 11 March, 2017 »
I've chosen not to run a de-humidifier in my observatory partly in view of expense and partly because I imagined I would end up trying to dehumidify the adjacent countryside as well as my observatory.  I use large silica gel bags and todate that strategy has been fairly effective in keeping my mount relatively free of condensation.  However I've noticed that rust is beginning to appear at the base of my pier. Is there anything I can paint/spray on to prevent this or am I heading towards a dehumidifier?

I would 'kill' the  rust before coating  it. Something like 'Fertan' - paint it on - leave it for a couple of hours - wash it off - then when its dry use the ACF50 - the rust won't come back. We use it on iron boat keels that are in salt water - its wonderful stuff!

I had already done my best to get rid of the rust before applying ACF50 but have saved your link in case the rust re-appears  so much appreciated.
