PHD2 says GPCAM224C tripping out
« on: 21:13:50, 21 March, 2017 »
PHD2 says that my Altair GPCAM224C is tripping out.

Ive had the GPCAM connected to the Altair Capture software and running for a few hours ( not with the scope tracking) and its been fine.

Also had SG Pro up and running, (mount not tracking) PHD connected and a 2 sec frame loop running for 4 hours, no problems.

When I track though, I occasionally get this error and that stops the SGPro sequence running, sometimes it runs fin for a few hours, sometimes it does the error.

Have updated the drivers, latest versions of SGPro and PHD2 all installed.

Any ideas?

Only thing which springs to mind is if the USB port power save options are on?

If it were that though Phil, I'd have expected that to cut in during the 4 hour test using Altair Capture software and also when I just had PHD2 running a loop for a few hours.

yeah... but it was the only thing I could think of at the time....

tbh, I would ensure all USB power saving is off.... no point having it on for what we do, in general...

Two parts to this too, within the power savings tab of each root hub and in power savings turn off USB Selective Suspend in the Advanced Power Savings settings.

How is everything connected USB and power wise?

Are you running a Dew heater off the 13.8 supply? Are you powering the hub? 4A is potentially a little on the low side for mount, camera and dew heater but as the guide cam isn't drawing power off it that should not be the problem. Have you tried a direct connection to the guide camera i.e. mis out on the hub. How long is the USB lead to the guide camera and have you tried another USB lead? It is not unheard of to get faults in either.

Swapped USB lead

Mount is on a seperate 13.8v Supply from the Mount HUB Pro

Made sure power save on the USB is off

Still the same problem.

Right.

If you go on the SGPro site there is advice on increasing the time-out value if you get this error 'occasionally'.

Yeah, Ive increased the timeout in PHD2, still get the same error, sometimes it runs ok, sometimes it trips.

OK, latest update.

GP Cam exchanged for a new one
Obsy PC wiped and re installed ( bit drasic I know)
All wiring checked and every bit of kit swapped to a different USB port.
All windows 7 Pro x64 updates done
Fresh installs of all software to latest release.

Fired up SG Pro, The SkyX, MountHub Pro and PHD 2, EQMOD v1.29a (all latest releases)

Locked on to a target star, started to guide.....      guides for a while then same problem and message.....  Guide Cam unresponsive after 17 secs and has been shut down.

Only thing I can think is that its a possible software conflict somewhere.  I'm going to try Maxim & PHD2 to do the sequencing tonight not SG Pro and PHD2, and see if that throws up the same errors.

What length of guide exposure are you using?

What version of PHD2? The latest is 2.6.3 Dev 2.

With my GPCam2 I get the option of Altair Cam or Altair Astro CAMERA Ascom Driver in PHD2. Have you tried both? The former will take ASCOM out of the equation. I have just tried it using EQmod simulator for the mount and it runs happily for an hour. Worth trying that on yours.

I went back to PHD2 2.6.1, I was on 2.6.3 Dev 2, just to see if it was a PHD2 issue.

Guide exposures are set anywhere between 1s - 3s in PHD2

Ive recently reinstalled the Altair Drivers so I can currently see Altair Cam and Altair ASCOM but it will only allow me to connect Altair ASCOM ( Altair Camera choice says No Camera, this could be because I need to recopy the dll file back over to PHD2)

Just run a Guiding Assistant and it did it again.  After 16 seconds the camera was unresponsive etc...

I'll try it with the EQMOD in simulator mode.

Mark,

Have you contacted Altair for some extra advice?

I strongly advise giving Ian or Nick a shout.... see what they can suggest....  and are you at Kelling this April? Good time to follow up with them there.
