Hello from Lancashire
« on: 01:04:39, 29 April, 2017 »
Hi everyone, just thought i would say hello  :D
new to this particular forum, didn't know it existed until now,
i am a young 56 year old and have been interested in astronomy for some time but only actively done something about it for about 2 years now,

My current equipment consists of
Skywatcher 130P-DS
Startravel 120
EQ6 Pro
QHY5L-II Colour
QHY mini finder guider
Canon EOS 600D
plus a few other bits and pieces,
i have also just purchased one of the older SX cameras, the sx MX7-C which i believe will test my patience in trying to get it working,
i do have some images that i have taken in the last couple of years if anyone would like to see them  ;)
any way that's enough rambling from me,

Hi Jem and a warm welcome to UKAI.

The M7C might be a bit long in the tooth but is still very capable and particularly suitable at this time of year for galaxies.

Please do post up your images, they are the lifeblood of the forum and don't be afraid to as questions, there is a huge collective knowledge on here to tap into.

Welcome along from me....

My 1st proper CCD was an MX7 & I purchased the colour chip for it later.... great little camera...

As Chris says, please do post the images... this is where people share their ideas & learn how to progress further...

Hi Chris
thanks for the welcome,

any chance i could pick your brains regarding the MX7-C on how i can get it to work, it did not come with usb box.
i have a desktop with parallel port running win10
a laptop with parallel port running win xp
i dont think it is going to work on either of these, but could be wrong, think i might need to source a copy of win98
any idea which software i need to install for the camera?

any help on this would be appreciated

Regards
James

It "should" work from a parallel port (I would try the XP laptop first). SX used to do a parallel to USB interface, originally USB 1.1 but later USB 2. These come up now and again on second hand sites for not a lot of money so would be good to look out for. All the legacy drivers are still available on the SX website, you may have to do a bit of trial and error as there are a couple of versions from what I can see.
