intermittent connection from canon eos450d to laptop
« on: 23:24:17, 18 October, 2017 »
Hi,

Can anyone help

I have my canon 450d camera connected to my laptop with a usb to mini usb cable. I am losing connection to my camera for imaging because of the connection at the camera end . If you fiddle the cable as it enters the camera mini usb slot you can get a connection but just touch it and its lost again making life almost impossibe trying to image.

I am not sure whether its the cable or the camera mini usb slot itself. Has anyone had this problem and does any firm repair canon cameras, surely i dont have to buy a new camera for such a small but irritating problem.

In the mean time i will buy another cable and test if its the cable although i feel its the camera input socket although it doesnt look damaged in anyway.

I hope that someone might offer any helpful advice

Philip

I would suspect the cable.
Try the new one. And see if it works.

Try a new cable first! If it is the mini USB in the camera then try http://camera-repair.co.uk. They are excellent. I have used them several times (new shutter, focus recalibration, lens repairs) and they have been excellent.

tried a different cable, still same problem. I am now looking for something that will give as good or a little better a result as my modified canon450d, doesnt have to be exceptional. I am thinking of the zwo asi178MC. I did look at the MM version and also the better zwo asi1600MC. At my level i wonder if i need the better cameras and filter wheels etc.
I use a skywatchered80 and celestron9.25.
Any thoughts before i reach for my cheque book.
many thanks

I think you would find the field of view of the 178 a little on the small side, especially on the 9.25, for deep sky objects and in comparison to your DSLR. The 1600 would be more comparable.
