Hello from "Streetlight Alley"
« on: 07:54:18, 27 October, 2017 »
Hello. I have just found your forum.

What to say about me?

Well, I have been into astronomy since the 1960's, when I was engrossed by the moon-shot programme, but only got my first serious telescope (SE6) in 2009. Unitl then it was almost exclusively a pair of 7x50 binoculars, and I still enjoy cruising the heavens with them while waiting for my subs to be taken.

I live in the south of the UK, with a lot of local LP, although I have to say that I have found the new streetlights to be a major improvement, as long as I keep direct light off the scope/camera lens (i.e. a nice long dewshield). I am always interested in "pushing the envelope" and one of my most satisfying memories was being able to capture M7 (from its princely maximum altitude of 4½°, right above "Streetlight Alley") ... the single frame will give you an idea of my LP, but I thought the stack did clean-up quite nicely.

I have found that narrowband imaging makes quite a difference and am currently looking at sourcing an NeIII filter - pushing that envelope again - not exactly cheap! My main camera now is the zwo 1600 mono cooled.

Well, I guess that will do for a start ... you will no doubt learn far more (than you want to?) about me in due course.

Thanks.
