Another thing to check (although I'm guess you already have) is are you getting the same error message when plugged into the same USB socket or have you got error messages thru different USB sockets - i.e. could it be a USB socket on it's way out ?

Have you also tried them on different machines to identify that the problem is with the disks ?

I have already tried different USB ports and it's a new windows 10 laptop.  I don't have any problems with my newist La Cie nor any pendrive I use.  It's all a bit of a mystery!  I tried very quickly this morning on my older laptop (Windows 8) and there didn't seem to be a problem but am going to have a more concerted effort over the next couple of days just to make sure.  I think in any case your suggestion of a Synology NAS is a good one which I am following up.

Thanks for your help Si.

Both La Cie drives work on my older windows 7 laptop but no matter what port I use on my newer Windows 10 Acer Predator they don't work and reluctantly work on the 'try again' instruction.  Having looked online for the error it shows: Ox80070037 I still don't understand why the error appears on just two of my drives and not the third La Cie I have.  Even my lowly pen drives work on the Predator but it's a mystery why the 2 La Cie drives work ok on my older acer!I have downloaded 'Tech Utilities' which has identified over 1300 issues and wants me to register the software and resolve the issues automatically - I don't know this software - what do you think!  Alternatively I could just chuck the drives out the window and start again!!

Firstly... NEVER install software recommended to clean errors on your system.... PERIOD

There are enough techies on here to help with issues in that direction..

As far as your issue... It sounds to me to be insuffient power to your USB drive...

On my older laptops, i got the full allowance of 500 milli amps to the port... The latest one I tested wad shy of a few... Just enough to not make my usb drive work without either extetnal power or a special cable which draws power from 2 USB pirts

Thanks Phil - I'm not sure it can be insufficient power to the USB port as the newer La Cie I had free when I bought a printer works fine.  Am beginning to wonder if the two La Cie's that come up with the error message Ox80070037 (destination specified does not exist) were early versions of USB 3 and don't quite speak the same language as my new Windows 10 laptop?

Just a thought!
