IC443
« on: 17:15:41, 28 December, 2017 »
Yet another night of kit issues, this time the laptop (windows10) throwing alsorts  of gremlins in to the mix! My patience was tried quite a lot!
Anyway, enough moaning  i had planned to get Ha, Oiii, and Sii  but only managed the Ha over almost 8 hours but only acquired 14 x 900s in the end. I had to do most things manually (image acquisition, focus etc etc ) as SGP  wasn't cooperating at all so in the end I was exhausted after a marathon session for so few subs  :duh:

IC443
14 x 900s
ES127 triplet
Sbig stf 8300m
Processed in PI

I'm not 100% I've done the image any favours but that's the tiredness kicking in

Cheers

That looks okay Mark.

The halo around the star Propus can be fixed. Apart from that. It is very good. with plenty of contrast and sharp stars.

Being a 127 fan it is always good to see images from this scope.  You have done well with the nebula, but Propus over powers and detracts from what is a pleasing image. As you know there are a couple of faint(ish) nebula that have dominant stars nearby the Veil being another with Cyg 52 being close. I think it would be interesting to share how we apply techniques to tone down such stars while bringing out the really faint stuff.

Obviously, one can remove the stars altogether process the nebula and then add the stars (far less stretched) back into the image. What’s your favoured technique?

That's a doozy Mark !!

Like your suggestion Jim... it's always a struggle to control these bright stars

Interestingly Mark, you're not just getting a single halo but multiple internal reflections of internal reflections of internal reflections etc etc.... what surfaces do you thing are causing it (the filter and the camera chip cover I guess ?)...

Thanks guys  :urock:

Jim/ Si - yes i was surprised how bright Propus got while processing (aka cobbled together!). I haven't done any processing before which tries to control brighter stars in the field (i'm doing some research today which i hope will tone things down), but, would be interested to hear any suggestions
As for the multiple halo, it's probably the FR, Si. - i use it to get down to around F6 (from F7.5).

I am loving the 127 the more i use it

This is a good video showing how to remove Halos using Star Masks and Wavelets in Pixinsight  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vqk2YgSAGos
Problem is, my halo is to big for the large scale structure to capture it all

Mark if you have not used the Straton Star Removal tool I recommend it highly.

http://www.zipproth.com/index.html#Straton_main

Remove all the stars from your original image and then add back into the stretched version later, which should help you keep the stars under control in an easier fashion.
