QHY8L
« on: 13:31:25, 02 February, 2018 »
Hi, Folks,

Modern Astronomy are doing a deal on this camera at the moment.  I had an SBIG ST4000 OSC some years ago with decent results, and although I have a modded Canon, and of course my QSI 683, I'm tempted by the thought of a cooled OSC at a decent price.

So.  Is anyone using a QHY8L, and in particular with MaximDL - I believe it's necessary to use an ASCOM driver.  And of course any comments on its performance.

Cheers,

Peter.

Hi,

I have a QHY8, not the L version which is smaller and has (I think) set point cooling.  I love my QHY8, lovely big sensor and no noise - dont need to take any darks.  Check out my blog, all the images on it are with this camera and mainly an 8" F4 Newt. I use MaximDL to control it with no issues and the Ascom driver, I think there is a non Ascom driver but not sure as I just use the Ascom one.
